Live music. Literally. The record label Musivi was born out of pure necessity, to do the job hourself, produce your own music. In 1988, François Cotinaud set up the association Jazz Bank and following this, he became his own producer. He Had no long term projects nor a commercial strategy, but each C.D. was carefully looked after all the way down the production line, from the quality of the recording, via the cover design, the individual respect for each musician's rights to the publicity campaign.
Ten years on, François Cotinaud is seriously considering expanding his
record label to enable his friends to record, and he intends to produce
C.D's on a more regular basis.
He has three goals to meet: 1- First of all, to produce artists who take improvisation seriously, who work at it, or write to provide a solid base for improvisation, or use Soundpainting, like Klangfarben ensemble, like Luc Rebelles and Marc Stutz-Boukouya (J'oZZ Quartet), Geoffroy De Masure (TRIBU), or Pascal Brechet. 2- Secondly, to study the possibilities, the links between improvised music and litterature, poems, like with Text-Up Ensemble ("François Cotinaud fait son Raymond Queneau" and Pascale Labbé setting Queneau's poems to improvised music and vocals, or "Rimbaud et son double"), with traditional music as is the case in "Yo m'enamori", 14 jewish-spanish songs thinked with Sylvie Cohen, or with Carole Hémard, and contemporary music techniques, as is the case in "Loco solo", which is based upon a piece by Luciano Berio, or, with "Pascal Gallois conducts ICE" on Pierre Boulez's master pieces. 3- Finally, he would like to collaborate with talented graphic designers (Olivier Guichard, Isabelle Servois, Valentine Hébert, Catherine Louis), painters (Patrick Geffroy), photographers or movy makers (Mathilde Morières for Rimbaud's movy - DVD, Patrick Morel for Klangfarben's movy - DVD). |
